National championship muck

National championship muck

Simon posted better photos than I got at the US National Cross-Country Championship in Boulder. But I will share this to show you just how muddy the course was. We've had a horrible winter here in Boulder and the Flatirons Golf Course, which hosted the event, was still covered mostly with snow, except for the course which had been plowed in advance of this event. Yuck!

I train with a national champion...

New champion Patty (left) waits to receive her medal.

... yes, of course I knew her when she was nothing :)

Congratulations to my once-a-week training partner Patty Murray, who is now a US national champion!

She was first woman home in the Masters title race with a blistering 29:54 for the 8k course -- a time that would have been good enough for 16th place among the 20- and 30-year-olds in the open women's race. In the age-graded rankings Patty was second to Kathryn Martin (32:16).
