Comparison of running on treadmill versus the road

Occasionally I do an indoor session on a treadmill.

Last week I decided to try and do a 20min tempo run.

I managed to get my pace up to about 6m40s/mile.

However it seemed to me that I felt as though I was running at 6min/mile pace.

So my questions are,

1. Is running on a treadmill more exhaustive than outdoors?

2. How can one determine a correlation factor of equivalent outdoor paces
so as not to over train on a treadmill?

Thanks

U.S. Navy commander Suni Williams will be running the Boston Marathon this year, but she’ll be running the marathon from a location 210 miles (338 km) above Earth’s surface in the International Space Station.
Williams will run the 26.2 miles on a treadmill; one that she will be teathered to with a bungee cord. Unfortunately, [...]

Oddball treadmill question

<em>steve outing</em>'s picture

So I finally bought a treadmill -- and it's a tank. A local health club was getting rid of some old Life Fitness 9100HRs for a good price, and I figured that would serve me better than a cheaper, lighter one that would be all I could handle budget-wise. Works well; I'm happy with it -- especially with Boulder's recent snow barrage.

Alas, it's in my garage now but where I want it is in a room on the 2nd floor of my house. So here's my oddball question: This thing is HEAVY; it took 3 people to get it in my van. It's so heavy that I wonder if it's too much for the structure of my wood-frame house to handle (especially when you factor in the weight and force of the runner).
