First Marathon: Pain is just weakness leaving the body

Posted by baldwyn on 7/30/2007 on baldwyn's blog

At the end of May, after completing the Bay to Breakers, I realized I only had two months left to train for my first marathon; San Francisco Marathon, on July 29th, 2007. I don't really race Bay to Breakers because of that initial push of humanity for the first few miles, and with a distance of 12k, it's not really an exercise in endurance. I had been running with coworkers leading up to it, training mostly around the 6 mile mark, and needed to push that up to 26.2.

I Got In!!

Posted by Runner NYC on 4/10/2007 on Runner NYC's blog

I got in to the Nike Women's Half Marathon! I missed early registration, but got in through the lottery. I've already run the Manhattan, Bronx and More Half Marathons and will be running the Brooklyn Half Marathon this weekend. I'm scheduled to run the Nike NYC and Disneyland and now Nike Women's half marathons and am considering the Philly Distance Run, as well. And Queens, if the NYRR ever gets it scheduled.

Why do I want to run the Nike Women's Half? For starters, the chocolate mile and the Tiffany medal! ;)

But for now, YAY!! Wish me luck with the knees this weekend!!

T.G.I.F !!!!!!!

1/2 of the "butterfly run" (2/22/07)

T.G.I.F - Thank God It's Freezing!!!! Day 3 of my frozen work environment experiment started off rather disastrous. While en route to work this morning, I was checking e-mails on my computer when my assistant sends over an instant message that said "someone opened your door and turned off your A/C!"... When I arrived at work, my office was a nice comfortable 70 degrees - it took the rest of the morning and half of the afternoon to get it back down to 57.

Training this week has been great with no real setbacks (sorry Dane). I did a hilly 8 last night while listening to a Competitor Radio podcast of Peter Snell - New Zealand's "Athlete of the Century" and gold medalist in both the 1960 and 1964 Olympics in the 800 meters - and finished up my week with a short 5 mile "city tour run" just now that includes two of the more famous hills in San Francisco (California Street and the squiggly part of Lombard).
