Over the course of a good few months of torture on the slightly higher-tech version of a rack they call a "Cadillac" in trhe Pilates world, my lower back got stronger and stronger... and then I went to England for three weeks.

After my 5k race at the tail end of a 17 mile run yesterday, I decided to rest my body today. Both my wife and kids have had hints of colds over the past few days, so any chance to give the old immune system a break at this late stage is probaby better than any run would be.

Instead of lacing up the running shoes, the family headed out to Tilden Park to a petting zoo and went for a hike to a small lake.

I have three focus runs planned for next week and then it's taper time!

Sorry for the short entry, but I seriously did NOTHING today. It was simply fantastic!

Will you recover faster from a long run by resting, or by exercising at a leisurely pace?

Most experienced athletes find that they recover faster by going easy the next day. On the day after you exercise vigorously, your muscles feel sore because they are damaged, and running fast with sore muscles injures them.
