Paula Radcliffe: 70 miles a week and a 42-minute 10k while pregnant, the Brit now targets Olympic gold

Posted by simon on 2/4/2008 on simon's blog

I'm not a huge fan of Runner's World, but I will buy any running magazine that has marathon superstar Paula Radcliffe on the cover. Well, I'm a Bit, and she's our best runner, male or female.

So the March RW cover story reveals that the 2:15 world record-holder Paula was "down to" 70 miles a week by month 7 of her pregnancy. Her earlier concession had been to slow from 5:30 to 6:30 per mile. And there's a picture of her in full stride, smile on her face, running that 42-minute 10k race in London's Hyde Park 14 weeks before giving birth.

Never mind David Beckham, Paula's on the way to Colorado

Posted by simon on 2/18/2007 on simon's blog

The guy in the mail shop wanted to talk about David Beckham coming to play soccer in the US (for those of you who live under rocks, DB is the former captain of the England soccer team, has been playing for Real Madrid and is married to "Posh Spice")....

... but all I wanted to find out is -- is Paula Radcliffe coming to Boulder?

Stories in "Hello!" magazine and on BBC news reveal that "Radcliffe and her family plan to move to her training camp in Colorado at the end of February to begin her preparations for the outdoor season."

Colorado? It has to be Boulder, right? I'm excited!

The marathon world record-holder started running -- well, jogging -- again 12 days after giving birth to baby Isla in January. She is gearing up for the World Championships in August in Japan, but has not yet decided whethere she's going for the 10,000 or the marathon.

Has anyone every faked a groin injury?

Has anyone every faked a groin injury?

I did just one week before the 2000 Boston Marathon. It wasn’t that I didn’t want to run or was intimidated by “Heartbreak Hill”. I simply had no choice.

Both my wife and I qualified that year and were looking forward to a fun trip with about ten other folks from our running group in Irvine (Southern California). It was supposed to be my first Boston and my wife’s second. Her first coming four years earlier when I was living in Switzerland and she was in graduate school in Florida. I flew out for that one and swore that one day I’d get fast enough to qualify myself.
