Priceless

Ever since my son Austin placed 3rd in his grade for the 50 yard dash, he has shown real interest in running with me. Today was no exception. He only wanted to do a mile, which is understandable, and since today is my rest day, I figured a good time to get a little blood into the muscles. I got a sweet extra half hour of sleep and got him up at 5:30. In no time, he was ready to go. We split a rice krispy treat, sipped some water, put the leash on the dog and off we went.

The Story

This is a video promoting the annual kids' jog-a-thon at Douglass Elementary in Boulder, Colorado. Not my video; I think one of the other parents put this together. Every kid raises money, then runs laps around the ball field on Jog-a-thon day. This is the 2006 event; this year's is coming up soon. I'm posting this in hopes that other schools will pick up on the idea. It's a perfect fit in fitness-crazy Boulder, but it can work anywhere!

It's a small world

I’m invovled in another countdown (of sorts) with my kids in anticipation of our trip to Disneyland next week.. This will be the third trip to the Magic Kingdom for my son, the first for my daughter, the thousandth for me, and the “one time too many”th time for my wife.. I’ll have to get mighty creative to get any runs in – aside from the mad sprint from the entrance to Space Mountain and then again from Space Mountain to the Matterhorn.. On second thought, two days at Disneyland with two small kids (three if you count me), is probably a better workout than any running camp out there.
