Once again, back to running

Posted by bigvalleystrider on 9/18/2008 on bigvalleystrider's blog

Well, it's back on the road for me.  In February, 2007, I twisted my ankle over while running.  I have now reached the point where I am going to train for a race again.  Way back in 1990, I ran in the New York City Marathon.  My wife was pregnant with my daughter at the time, and for the last two years, my daughter has been trying to convince me to try to get in the race again, so here I go.

I have a cunning plan... to PowerCrank up my training

Posted by simon on 8/28/2008 on simon's blog

So I decided it would be a good idea to replace one of my week's 6-mile runs with something with less impact.

Although I do most of my training on trails, they have been almost as hard as tarmac throughout the summer, and for the fist time ever I've been getting the odd twinge in my knees.

Running Injury - Asking better questions - Socratic Method

Posted by Damien Howell on 7/15/2008 on Damien Howell's blog

As a clinician and as a participant in internet discussion forums related to running injuries I have the opportunity to observe and respond to questions. The questions asked by individuals who are striving to solve repetitive use injuries are varied, in terms of type of questions and the degree of sophistication of the questions.

Britain starts to panic: Paula is on crutches

Posted by simon on 5/18/2008 on simon's blog

"Paula Radcliffe, Britain's best hope for an Olympic gold medal, is on crutches just three months before the Games open in Beijing after developing a hip injury which has forced her to stop training. It is another blow for Radcliffe who was forced to miss the London marathon last month because of a toe injury and whose preparations for the Olympics are beginning to look increasingly compromised."

Newby Runner - well, walker but working on the running thing

Posted by njladybug on 1/22/2008 on njladybug's blog

Below are entries from my blog on facebook. I wanted to post here too in case there is anyone who might get something from them or anyone who can offer support or just in case someone wants to comment. I am new to running and have decided to try it out. My husband and I train together and most of the time we walk because that is the fitness level that I am at. But I'm getting better and hopefully will be running soon. We are training for a 8k run in June. Here are some previous blogs (I'm also new to blogging):

Is the female deadlier than the male?

Posted by simon on 10/4/2007 on simon's blog

I guess you could say I got caught out by my own chauvanism.

Following world champion physical therapist Mark Plaatjes into the room of pain, er.. sorry, treatment room...for my third dose of deep tissue ("no Mark, that's the table, you've gone straight through the muscle") treatment, I was delighted to be introduced to his new intern.

I'd like to run like this woman, please

Posted by simon on 9/18/2007 on simon's blog

No, I'm not proud.

This morning I was waiting in the clinic of Mark Plaatjes, world marathon champion turned world-class physical therapist, for treatment to the lumpy Achilles on my left foot and sprained ankle (again) on my right foot, when I picked up this old copy of Running Times.

"3-6 months before you'll walk" they said: Danelle takes two months and wins 12-hour adventure race

"Danelle Ballengee was back at it Saturday, winning a 12-hour adventure race in Buena Vista as a solo female competitor. She completed the race in a time that would've made her the fifth-place solo male competitor."
