Never mind the official time and distance, what did you really do?

Posted by simon on 3/23/2008 on simon's blog

I can't believe there were WALKERS in Grave W's way at the start of the LA marathon!

Grace's report also gives me a shudder with her description of the shoulder-to-shoulder mass of "runners" she had to deal with.

Hello from Wales

Posted by RunAndyRun on 3/18/2008

Hey everyone

I found the site through the facebook app and its great. I've been into running on and off for a while but I want to take it more seriously and train for some events. I'm going to attempt my fastest time for a mile on the weekend (barring injury). I'm doing mixed training at the moment, I have days when i go for long runs and others where i try to get the best shorter distance times possible. I am saving up for a forerunner 405....see if i can keep better track of my progress then...anyone else got one?

Cheers

The ugly side of the Garmin 101

Posted by littlemamalopez on 7/12/2007 on littlemamalopez's blog

This morning was a simple maintenance run. I got up a little late, so I only did 3.5 miles. But they were 3.5 miles of hills, hills and more hills. Gotta love training!

Hellfire in the woods

Posted by simon on 7/7/2007 on simon's blog

To High Wycombe, west of London, home of the 18th century Hellfire Club. Not the purpose of my visit, of course :)

Another early morning run. My feeling going out of the front door was an adapted line from the new Harry Potter film... "Who are you, and what have you done with Simon?" However, my normal pattern of behaviour soon established itself: I got badly lost.

Garmin Forerunner, speed-distance products

http://www.yourrunning.com/forum-metronome_training#comment-4310

Q: Hey Guys, isn't the [Garmin Forerunner] 305 the star these days?

Simon says:
Jeesh, you're right! Sorry guys -- brain a bit tired at the moment.

Yeah, 305 is the improved, new designed Forerunner.
101 and 201 are the same -- no heart rate monitor. The 101 uses batteries; the 201 is rechargable. The 301 has HR (and is the one I'd go for).

Polar RS800 SD -- take two

Posted by simon on 6/14/2007 on simon's blog

OK, that was my first mistake. Now I've installed the software that comes with the RS800SD and read up on the gizmo, I realise I can't really compare this with my old Garmin. The Garmin is basically a GPS with a heart rate monitor attached. The Polar RS800 is a total running computer providing more information than, at the moment, I know what to do with. :)

Going Polar --- with the RS800SD

Posted by simon on 6/14/2007 on simon's blog

We love our Garmins, yes we do: there's a Garmin Forerunner fan club among the members on this site, but... lately I've been wondering whether this trusty speed/distance and heart rate monitor is well overdue for an update.

It's Sunday... I am NOT running Eagle trail again

Posted by simon on 6/10/2007 on simon's blog

With temperatures reaching 89 today, a late-bordering-on-night-time run is looking attractive.

But, I can't, I just can't, give way to my obsession and repeat the SAME evening trail run I've done for the last four weeks !!!!

Only .31 Miles

Posted by littlemamalopez on 4/19/2007 on littlemamalopez's blog

I have a new training partner. The Forerunner 101. We went out for our inaugural run this morning and it is brilliant. He (yes, Forerunner 101 is a "he") tells me just what I want to know, pace, distance, averages. Not too many bells and whistles. He is the best partner ever! Or is he?

He also happens to be brutally honest. It turns out that my "5 mile, end at Starbucks reward loop" is in actuality 4.69 miles. Ouch!
