Why should we pick you to go to the North Pole?:
I'm a high school physical education teacher and swim coach and I set a good example to my students. They track my 100 mile endurance runs and my long distance triathlons. My wife is a 6th grade teacher and she would use my North Pole marathon experience with her class to study geography and math.
The North Pole marathon is a experience of a lifetime that I would love to be a part of. Living on a teachers salary I would never be able to afford a trip like this but would be honored to participate in your event.
Lastly, my daughters love santa clause and want me to visit him and his elves.

Offer some evidence that you can complete a marathon in harsh, sub-zero conditions at the North Pole:
Harsh conditions don't bother me. I live in Illinois and spend time in Vermont and although it's not near as cold here I train outdoors year round and enjoy the extreme conditions. One 100 mile distance in freezing conditions (10 - 15 degrees above). I do long training runs every weekend all winter long, regardless of snow, wind chill, and temps. I recently did a 14 hour training run in Vermont at zero degrees with 20 inches of snow on the ground and a 10 hour training run near Lake Kabetagama in Northern Minnesotta. I've also done two double ironman triathlons both in horrible conditions. One year required evacuation of nearby towns as a tropical storm was off the coast of Virginia, just east of the triathlon.
Tell us about your cold-weather race experience:
Little cold weather race experience because of my winter schedule being so busy but I've done plenty of long training runs in and around zero degree temps. I have no problem in those conditions. The proper clothing and my tolerance for endurance events make it not problem.
Tell us about your marathon experience, including times, results, etc.:
I have completed 11 marathons and 37 ultramarathons. Seven of those ultramarathons have been 100 milers. Marathon PR - 3:06
50 KM PR - 3:56
50 Mile PR - 7:52
100 KM PR - 12:04
100 Mile PR - 21:05
Double Ironman - 32:00
What do you expect your North Pole Marathon time to be?:
7 hours
Can you write well? Explain:
I am a race director and I put on a large ultramarathon in Pekin, IL. The race is the McNaughton Park Trail Runs and the site is www.mcnaughtonparktrailruns.com I am also the race director for the Pittsfield Peaks Snowshoe Marathon and Half Marathon in Pittsfield, Vermont as well as the Pittsfield Peaks Ultra Challenge in Pittsfield, Vermont. The site for these races is www.peak.com I have also directed triathlons, adventure races, road races, etc. I would share my training and racing experience on both of those sites. I also contribute to ultrarunning lists and running lists and have a large database of runners, triathletes, adventure racers, and educators.
Tell us about your media experience:
I would gladly submit audio and video coverage. The McNaughton Park Trail Runs has been featured on the Today Show and I have connections to a company that is interested in doing a documentary with me this Spring. I have also been able to attract world renowned mountaineer David Breashears to speak and present his film at my snowshoe marathon in Vermont.

He seems like the perfect pick. Some of the other applicants probably could afford to go on their own, and most likely will. Can you imagine the learning the kids will get following his marathon experience? You want the younger generation to know what's going on in the polar region and what those effects are.
