Fiddy2

Posted by danerunsalot on 3/3/2007 on danerunsalot's blog

As many of you know, I ran 52 (real) marathons last year. But I did not do it for me. I did it to raise money for a special charity. And with my goal of $52,000 not yet reached, although the marathons are done, I am not done. So I am continuing to seek donations from runners, non runners in large and small amounts. I am presently just shy of $40,000 and hoping to get to 52k soon.

Why should you donate? Well, why not? I honestly do not expect anything. It helps me to keep my expectations low, that way every donation is like a gift.

What are you donating to? well, my friend recently sent an email out to her friends which put it so eloquently I decided to repost it here. Thanks for taking the time to at least read:

"I wrote to you before back in December to tell you about my friend, Dane Rauschenberg's quest (dubbed Fiddy2) to run a marathon (26.2 miles) every weekend in 2006. He successfully completed Fiddy2 on December 31, 2006, in Springfield, MO (with an average finish time for the 52 marathons of 3:21:16!). Read more at www.Fiddy2.org

In addition to working toward being only the third person to ever run 52 certified marathons in one calendar year, Dane also set a goal of raising $52,000 for L'Arche - Mobile, an international federation of communities in which people with a mental handicap and those who help them can live, work, and share their lives together. Dane has raised nearly $40,000 thus far and, despite the fact that he has concluded the running of his Fiddy2 marathons, he will continue to fundraise until he reaches $52,000.

A new opportunity to earn a large matching donation for L'Arche - Mobile has recently come about. Actor Kevin Bacon has launched a web site called www SixDegrees org, which encourages people to set up their own charity donation page (a "charity badge") and collect donations for their favorite charity. As a part of the launch of his site, Kevin has promised to match the donations (up to $10,000) of the six people who receive the highest number of donations between Jan. 18 and March 31.

So, if you make just a $10 donation (or multiple $10 donations on separate credit cards), you could help Dane to be one of the six lucky people who receive a matching donation for their charity from Kevin Bacon! He presently has the 9th highest number of donations. If he raises an additional $6,000 and receives a matching donation of $6,000 from SixDegrees org, the $52,000 goal for L'Arche will be met by April 1! Again, the dollar amount of the donation is not the crucial point, but rather the number of separate donations received by March 31. So, if someone wants to donate more than $10, doing it over several credit cards is the most beneficial way to help Dane become one of the top six donors...thus receiving a generous matching donation from Kevi n Bacon! :)

You may donate by going here:

http://www.networkforgood.org/pca/PersonalCharityBadge.aspx?pcaid=101944

If you do make a donation, please type "Fiddy2" in the 'designation' space so L'Arche will let Dane know that you donated (so he can thank you!).

And you may check Dane's progress in his quest to reach the top six fundraisers by going to http://www.sixdegrees.org/Top.aspx

Thank you so much for considering helping L'Arche - Mobile and Dane's goal of reaching $52,000. If you have any questions, please feel free to let me know, or you may also reach Dane at Danerunsalot@yahoo dot com. He is always happy to hear from anyone interested in L'Arche - Mobile, Fiddy2, or running and fitness!
