Posted by simon on 11/30/2006 on simon's blog "Bobby Mcgee is the only coach I know who consistently gets folks to PR at Boston – a very difficult thing to do. He has had several under 3 hours and coached elites to PRs at Boston", says Marci Roschke, who works with Bobby and has used his program herself to run the world's oldest marathon. Next year's event on April 16 is a bit special: the race celebrates its 111th anniversary and more than 20,000 runners are expected to participate. Bobby's Boston program is now recruiting. "This program is definitely a particular Bobby speciality", says Marci. "He has had many athletes, elites included, who have had reat success at Boston using it. Last year we had several reach their goals, including a sub-3-hour run and PRs -- neither of which are easy to do at Boston. The program is designed by Bobby specifically for the Boston course." To get runners in the best shape, Bobby provides a free base program so that you can start right now and prepare for the more intensive 14-week Boston schedule. That 14 weeks includes 7 supervised sessions that Bobby will use to gather data to personalize the program - including a 30-minute test, 8km test, 10-mile time trial, eccentric workshop (vital for Boston), a supported 22-mile run and a 15-mile tempo downhill supported run. Bobby will be present at all 7 of these sessions, and Marci will work with the group one time a week doing quality sessions that Bobby has designed. Long runs will be done with the Fast Forward training group except for those listed where Bobby will be present. Beginning February 7 Bobby will conduct weekly sessions to work on form, gait and mechanics. Boston runners will also receive a mental skills assessment inventory which will be analyzed by Bobby. You will receive weekly articles, emails of interest to your training and will be able to access him by email with questions. And the week before the race you will have a session where he will discuss all the last-minute details pertaining to travel, race strategy etc. We have to agree it sounds like a remarkable deal for $35 week. (Base period is free and in addition to the 14-week program. If you're not in the Boulder/Denver area and still want to follow the program, ask Marci about the "distance learning" options. * Contact Marci at Bobbymcgee.admin@comcast.net | |
