DJ Marathon coming to you live from the North Pole!

Posted by YourRunning on 1/13/2007 on YourRunning's blog

Brad Feld and YourRunning are giving away an entry to the North Pole Marathon! Here's who has applied to run.

Suzanne Thunder

Mount Juliet, Tennessee
48

Running Experience:
Advanced

Why should we pick you to go to the North Pole?:
This is the perfect time for me to take an ADVENTURE marathon! I just ran my ninth marathon in November, an inagural one in Tennessee that was CONSTANT rolling hills. It was tough, and I finished convinced that I can do just about anything. (I also qualified for Boston in October and plan to run Boston in 2008). I love to run in cold weather, because it is so invigorating, and I have a great internal engine that keeps me warm - plus I know how to dress in layers!

"I've run several half-marathons, and three marathons, in temps under 30 degrees. I have run in snow and ice. I love it."

Offer some evidence that you can complete a marathon in harsh, sub-zero conditions at the North Pole:
Well, of the nine marathons I've finished, three were in sub-freezing temperatures. I have amazing perseverance, that's all I can offer besides the above.

Tell us about your cold-weather race experience:
I've run several half-marathons, and three marathons, in temps under 30 degrees. I have run in snow and ice. I love it.

Tell us about your marathon experience, including times, results, etc.:
My first marathon was Birmingham AL in Feb. '03. I've done Louisville twice, Country Music three times, New York City once (awesome!), and Columus Ohio this past October was where I qualified for Boston with a time of 3:57.

What do you expect your North Pole Marathon time to be?:
5:45

Can you write well? Explain:
If you want, I can share with you a blog that I wrote for the Tennesseen website before the Country Music Marathon of 2006. I wrote a daily blog that appeared online for a couple of weeks leading up to it, and I got great feedback, with several people telling me I should write for a living. (instead I am a disc jockey).

Tell us about your media experience:
Well, I AM in media. I've been in radio for 28 years. Half of it has been as a disc jockey, which I am now, and the rest of it has been in radio journalism. I worked for Minnesota Public Radio, where I wrote and produced story packages for the on-air magazine. I have won awards for my radio journalism.

Jami M. says:

I work in radio with Suzanne and have followed her running for almost 2 years. She is full of determination and spirit and has the inner strength to go the distance...I have no doubt! When everyone starts to fade by mile 19 or 20 she emerges with an endurance that is quite remarkable. She loves to meet people from all over the world and loves to chat with groups while they run but in the end she pulls away and always has a kick at the end. Remarkable! I am very proud of her and, at 48, she was the first woman in the state of Tennessee to finish the Music City Marathon in her age division. Suzanne would be a great addition to your race and deserves serious consideration. She is the real deal.

Bill Baker says:

I have been to several races with Suzanne, and some training runs.

She not only can complete this marathon, but she will bring her personality, wit and charm....What I mean she is a fun person to run with and be around! She would be a great addition to any group

I don't want to run this marathon, having said that I will probably be jelious, of her if she gets to go!She gets my VOTE!!!.. .....good luck Sooz.......bill baker

Steve Duvall says:

Suzanne has been part of my life for almost two years. An avid runner who has many lemur-like qualities. She brings a lot of determination and mental toughness to a difficult race. She is also a hoot and a holler. She has even persuaded me to run a half marathon. You can't go wrong with Sooz.
