The lines are obviously snow (you can see it smudged at the bottom of the picture).. My guess is that the snow you see was shielded from the sunlight by the shadow of the railing (see how they line up quite well) so the rest has melted away and you're left with what you see.. Either that or a winter version of crop circles..
Nice shot!

These are place markers for Power Bars.

Sneaky trick question! ... But if you click on the photo (which gets you the enlarged view), you can clearly see it's snow left by the fence shadow and that Bobby is correct. Give that man a Powerbar reward!

Bobby is indeed on the money. If I hadn't smudged the snow prior to the photo, it might have been harder. When I came upon the bridge it took me a minute to figure out what I was looking at. I literally thought they were painted on lines, or possibly some kind of traction application for safety, until I stepped in the snow.
Sorry Bobby, I have no affiliations to call upon to offer you a prize!

WOW! This is first thing I've said right all week! I'm about to head up to the track to shoot some video of me in my snow shoes. They arrived yesterday and I think the grass field of Piedmont High is the perfect place to give them a go.
Cheers!
