A note about my running and racing

Posted by trunner on 7/13/2008 on trunner's blog | Groups: Lets Run

I haven't been posting anything lately about running or racing. I have had to put a hold on all running and racing until further notice. After having some tests, there is an issue that I am having looked into. Will post an update when I can. Happy running to everyone! Tim

5k or bust, well, then it's a bust!

Posted by trunner on 9/14/2007 on trunner's blog | Groups: Lets Run

Well, I was to do a 5k race this weekend.  Got a nasty head cold so, it's a bust!  Not what I want to do, but the last time I ran when I felt like this, I got worse.  So on to the next!

Back in action

Posted by trunner on 8/15/2007 on trunner's blog | Groups: Lets Run

I'm sorry that I haven't posted in a while, with heat, busy schedules and Foster Care, I haven't been able to run much for the last 2 weeks. I am currently preparing for a race this weekend. This race is a 4 miler, which I think I will do fine in. I went running this morning and only ran 2 miles, but, I could tell that I wasn't in too bad of shape for being off for a little bit. I took it slow and easy and did 2 miles in 24 minutes. The finish time was not the objective for this mornings run. I'll get back to you on
the stats for Saturday. Have a great week!

Today's recovery run

Posted by trunner on 7/19/2007 on trunner's blog | Groups: Lets Run

I ran 2 miles this morning in very light rain. I wasn't really concerned with the time except to know when I started and finished for the purpose of logging it. It was a 22 minute run. I ran light and easy. Upon nearing home, it got very humid as the rain ended. The legs felt real good especially since this past Sunday was the 10k. I found myself running up the hill to our driveway like never before. Wow, Couldn't believe it. Was a good run as short as it was. I am due for a 7 miler very soon. Perhaps this weekend. Got to get back on track to reach 13 miles by mid August.

Arts Festival 10k

Posted by trunner on 7/15/2007 on trunner's blog | Groups: Lets Run

This morning in State College PA, at Penn State University, I ran in the Nittany Valley Arts Festival 10k with a finish time of 01:08:45 which means I met my goal time of 01:09:00. My worst time for this race was 01:13. I haven't yet seen the overall stats for the race and am waiting to see the placings. They should be available soon. When finishing the race, I noticed that my legs were really holding out better than previous times at this race. Before the race, I handed out free samples of a free sports drink to 25 lucky people. That went well.

Three workouts in one for a 3 mile run

Posted by trunner on 7/12/2007 on trunner's blog | Groups: Lets Run

This morning, I decided to do a 3 mile run. The run consisted of 3 parts. These parts are hills, tempo runs, and medium to high cruising runs. I started out by running down the hill from our driveway, right into a medium cruising run. Then on the next street, I did a short tempo run. After crossing the next street after that I did another tempo run but at full power followed by a short walk and then another tempo up a hill but not at full power. Then I crossed the bridge and ran down and did some cruising.

Sign Up for the "Virtual" World Wide Half Marathon!

As a road race director, I have to say that this is just about the coolest idea that I've ever heard of. I just signed up to a half marathon called the World Wide Half Marathon, which is taking place in October. But this race is a little different...it's virtual and it's free.

This morning's 6 mile run aborted

Posted by trunner on 7/11/2007 on trunner's blog | Groups: Lets Run

Well, this morning, I knew it was going to be a humid day. So, I got up at 5:15am EST and was on the road by 5:30am EST. It was so humid, that I couldn't even get into high gear. I could only do a easy slow pace. I kept going until I got about (guessing) a mile and a half out. At this point I stopped and cleared my eyes from the sweat. It was at this point that I realized that I could not complete my six mile run. I turned back and headed home. I ran when I could. Total time: 20:51 for 2 plus miles. I am not worried about the distance.

Early evening tempo run

Posted by trunner on 7/8/2007 on trunner's blog | Groups: Lets Run

This evening, I ran approx. 3.3 miles (guesstimated). Time: 34:41. When I was a little past a mile into the run, I did a full-power tempo for about maybe 30 to 40 seconds. Hard to tell the time w/out glasses on. So, I guessed that was how long it was. The rest of the run was about just doing the distance as consistent as possible with as few walk brakes as possible. I noticed that the total distance ran this week was 11.4 miles. Now, as I can see, that's the most I've done in a week in quite a while! Coool!!!! Countdown to the 10k --- T minus 8 days and counting!

Today's easy recovery run

Posted by trunner on 7/6/2007 on trunner's blog | Groups: Lets Run

This morning, I did an easy 3 mile recovery run around 9:30am this morning. Of course, there was plenty of sun. Nice and warm and the right amount wind. When I started, I new I was doing a recovery run, but, as I started down the road, I decided then to make it an easy light recovery run. I did not add any speed or power to the run, I just took it easy. My finish time for today was 35:41 for 3 miles. Time was not the objective today. It's nice to down shift now and then.

Humbled by a Loaded Field on July 4th

Since I finished 2nd last year at the "Four on the Fourth" in Chester, CT, I jumped into this race thinking that I may have an outside chance of being the first one across the line even though the field size was close to 1,000. But I should have known that I was in trouble when I lined up at the starting line next to a guy with the words "Pain is Temporary" permanently tatooed across his back!

Upper-Body Training for Runners?

I've received a few e-mails asking about thoughts on the question of whether it's beneficial for runners to do any upper-body training. As you might expect from a lawyer (like politicians, we are generally incapable of giving straight answers), the...

Posted by trunner on 7/4/2007 on trunner's blog | Groups: Lets Run

Well, if you been reading my recent posts, you know how I was feeling or thinking about today's race. The race started about 8 or so minutes late (after 9am). There was a record amount of runners in attendance for this race. This is the one race that I use as a benchmark to see how I am really doing. Here are the stats:

Total Runners: 424
My overall place: 367
Runners behind me @ finish: 57
My finish time: 31:10 --> July 2007
Last years finish time: 31:13 --> July 2006
My best time for this race: 29:18 --> July 2005
