Dying in the Boilermaker

I've been using the "Run Time!" Facebook Application, which links back here so I thought I would say hello. I've been logging runs since August, but have been on the roads, running, since elementary school. I grew up in hilly upstate NY and return every summer for the Utica Boilermaker, which will always be my favorite race! (In addition to running, I love beer.) I've run every distance except Ultra stuff, but maybe someday I'll try something longer than a marathon. My favorite distances are a quick 5k and the half-marathon. Over the years, I've been a member of the Somerville Road Runners (SRR) in Somerville, MA and am now running with the Lake Merritt Joggers & Striders out of Oakland CA.

Some of my more memorable runs include numerous high school and college x-country meets in the snow, running from Somerville to Logan International Airport in Boston and having to take the "T" home, running the Snowshoe Shuffle in Vail, CO (where I was snowboard-bumming) and coming in third after running 11-minute miles on snowshoes, and running the "Big Man" triathlon, where I did the biking portions on my fixed-speed--in the rain.

These days I run around Lake Merritt and least a few times a week and do some hills every now and then. There are plenty of hills around here! I'm always looking to race on the weekends, but have had to cut back on that a bit due to current budgetary constraints--racing every weekend adds up in the expense department and at the moment I am only semi-employed.

Happy roads and trails, and if you haven't checked out the logging application on Facebook, here's a link. It's really good and the developer welcomes feedback: http://apps.facebook.com/track_runs/

Hey, welcome! I live down the road (Castro Valley). I know what you mean about race fees. If you're interested in trail running, check out www.pctrailruns.com. I'll be volunteering at a couple of events to get a couple of free race entries!

Hey, thanks for the tip. I will definitely be looking into some of these runs--the Lake Merrit one is a must!
