Flying Pig Marathon

Posted by cbs2528 on 4/5/2007

Anyone done this one? Coming to the end of training for this race and wondering if anyone else has run and what your thoughts and impressions are? Where did you stay, what did you do in Cincinnatti and most importantly where did you eat?

The Flying Pig is at the top of my marathon list... probably because I set my current PR there, but it is a great marathon. The run is a little hilly, but there is one climb (somewhere around 15 or so?) that you climb up and then get to look out at a great view.

As far as hotel and eating, I can't help much. I went to the race with some friends from Cinci so they pretty much took care of everything. I do remember having UNO's pizza prior to the race.

Oh yeah - you also have to cross some bridges into Northern KY, which was nice. But when I ran it they were later in the race and the extra climbing was enough for me to not appreciate the scenery :-) I think they may have changed this now?

There are a few nice bed and breakfasts in Covington, KY (on the river). There are also some good restaurants there and some good starchy bar food places. Main St. in Cincy has a few good restaurants, several with a good selection of vegetarian fare.

I used to travel to Cincy for biz about once per month. I always stayed at the Hyatt. Shhhh...they have an IBM discount rate of $80 and they never check ID. ;-)

Perfect. We actually got a similar deal at the Millenium (not quite as good as yours!). Thanks for the location advice.
