Adidas Supernova Cushion

I couldn't resist these when I saw them on sale.

Normally I do the whole routine with expert advice, treadmill video feedback, trying on six different brands and three types of inserts and so on... but just for once I thought I'd take a chance.

Take into account that I'd been brainwashed by the ads in the running magazines, too. These are the shoes they say you can try for 28 days and then send back if they don't suit. So you can't lose. Only, there was no mention of this offer at the store, on the shoe or in the box, so maybe it only applies to certain types of Supernova. The whole thing became moot in short order anyway, as I lost a couple of weeks when I sprained my ankle doing something silly involving a track and a line of water bottles. (In different shoes, by the way.)

That was a shame, becasue otherwise I would probably have sent them back. Reason being that after my first and second runs in them I ended up with a cut second toe on my right foot. The shoes have a sharp ridge in the toe box at the anchor point where the laces end. As I'd used up most of the "free test" time, it was out with the Duck tape and the foam. Band-Aid on the toe and "designer" padding in place, I can now run easy in them.

These are not the minimalist style shoes I normally favor, but they make up for that with the easy ride the cushioning gives. That's the Adidas cushioning, not the Duck tape cushioning. A good thing about them is that the cushioning does extend under the forefoot.

I wear a different pair of shoes every time I go out, and these are becoming a regular part of the rotation.
