We know it hasn't been that long since he last won the Post of the Week, and generally we try to space out the schwag awards so one person doesn't win often. But we just couldn't help ourselves. Much like we couldn't help ourselves when reading his blog post titled, "Took me long enough, eh?" We couldn't help but hang on each word of his incredible Burning River 100 Ultra Marathon write up. Couldn't help but devour each paragraph, wondering how he could put himself through it, why he would put himself through it, and what it would be like to be in the amazing locations he beautifully described. Our hearts couldn't help but go out to him when we read about his mother, our respect couldn't help but be given to him for the way he cherishes and devotes everything to what is important to him: family, friends, and running. And we couldn't help but cheer him on while reading, and wait with bated breath to find out the result.
Our congratulations go out to him for his success, and for his Post of the Week win! Document your own test of endurance of the heart and body in a blog, picture or video, and next week's pair of Injinji socks could be YOURS! | |

I am sorry about this, but I never realized you selected that post as the Injinji post! Thank you! My experience at the Burning River was SO much a success in so many ways. Of course, like anyone, I plan on moving on and completing the race next year (I drive past SO many of the sections of the course everyday...I can NEVER forget my goal with this race...) I learned so much....and am strengthening myself to attack the course again next summer.
Things to improve:
Overall fitness
Flexibility
Symmetry in body strength (doc visit showed me how much stronger my right is than my left...part of my problem)
MORE heat training for next August (what I did do made a BIG difference)
Between now and next August, I plan:
Akron Road Runner marathon (Sept 29)
Rim to Rim to Rim double crossing of the Grand Canyon (October)
Slim Pickins FA 70 miler on the Laurel Highlands Trail in W PA (Nov. 17)
Rocky Raccoon 100 miler (TX - February)
Mississauga marathon (May)
Mohican 100 miler (June)
Burning River 100 revenge run! (August!)
Those are the key, targeted dates, but I am also pretty spontaneous and may slip some other adventures in there. There is a winter 50k in my area I want to run, and if the 70 miler goes well, I may double up and run 50k to the starting line of the 50k (all night...) like some of my local heroes have done.
OK - that was like a whole blog post, but I wanted to respond with thanks for selecting my post!

We loved reading about it!
Personally, I think you deserve an EXTRA pair of Injinji socks for this follow-up. Why? Because you've taken the extra step of identifying your weaknesses.
From what I've been reading lately, most of the really successful athletes are working on their weaknesses all the time. I was reviewing my current training/life and realised there are a LOT of things I could be doing to support my running that I am just not doing. Like working on flexibility, symmetry etc etc. I think of myself as fairly dedicated, but now I'm not so sure.
