New shoes, More Miles and a Chiwawa

Posted by agoyette on 5/15/2007 on agoyette's blog

Well week 2 of training is in the bag! My mileage for the week was 22, with a long run of 8.5 on Sunday. Some of the highlights included new running shoes, being chased by a dog and running more then planned. All in all a good week.

I started it off by going to Born to Run, http://www.borntoruninc.com/, a local running shop which offers discounts for those running for the Leukemia and Lymphoma society. After analyzing my foot and having me run a treadmill they brought out several shoes for me to choose from. I tried them all on and ran in each pair. The shoe that fit the best and felt the best running in was the Nike air zoom vomero 2. After a week in running in them they feel great and have a great cushiony feel to them when I run.

So the week of training began. I covered 4 miles on both Tuesday and Wednesday. Then on Thursday decided to play in a softball game with a friend and do my run after that. Well I ended up tearing up my leg on a slide, leaving me with about 7 inches of raw, bloody skin on my right leg. So I skipped my run Thursday and instead opted for a 5 ½ mile run on Friday. Then came my long run on Sunday. I originally was planning on doing just 6 miles. However once I reached my turn around point I felt so good I decided to keep going. I ran about an extra mile past that point and then turned around. When I got back home I tracked how far I ran online and was surprised to see I covered 8.5 miles. I was pretty pleased with the run, despite being chased by a dog for about 1/10 of a mile (luckily it was only a chiwawa).

Also in terms of my fundraising I have now raised over $1,000 thanks to some very generous friends and family! I still have a long way to go but this is a great start. This upcoming week I have my Team in Training kick off party. There I will get even more tips on fundraising and training. So hopefully I will be able to complete both with ease.
