ROUTES/TRAILS

The Road Not Taken (because it doesn't exist)

Posted by cselland on 8/19/2007 on cselland's blog

Had an OK long run this morning - 18 miles in about 3:08 - felt good until about 14 miles in and then my HR started to climb. Probably had something to do with not getting out early enough and the heat climbing at the same time.

Still all told not bad - other than needing sidewalks on some of the roads I mapped out yesterday it was a pretty route.

Temescal's my side of the tracks!

Bobby, it's nice to see others enjoying beautiful southern California! If you have time, take Temescal Canyon Road up through a section called Pacific Palisades. Gorgeous! Or, take Ocean Drive (in Santa Monica) north which will run you through Rustic Canyon. Spectacular as well. Enjoy your time in LA.

There are various pins marking points of interest....mostly the spots where I took the photos that appear on my blog, a few of which I uploaded here!

Show us (and map) your favorite running routes...

Bobby Bostic's tourist run around San Francisco

You may have noticed a new feature here on YourRunning.com: running routes! ... This is a beta feature, which means it's not perfect yet and we're still adding things to it. But by all means go ahead and try it out.

The idea is that you can share your favorite running routes via a cool satellite image interface (courtesy of Google Maps), then other runners can leave reviews of the route.

An example is Bobby Bostic's tourist run through San Francisco, which will take you on a scenic tour of the City By the Bay (and give you a serious workout; San Francisco is definitely not flat!).

We're working on this feature and will introduce enhancements soon, such as altitude profiles, links to other content about the route or trail (photos, videos, etc.), and user-submitted condition reports.

While we're working on those, go ahead and let the YourRunning.com community in on your favorite runs. ... Just map it!

T.G.I.F !!!!!!!

1/2 of the "butterfly run" (2/22/07)

T.G.I.F - Thank God It's Freezing!!!! Day 3 of my frozen work environment experiment started off rather disastrous. While en route to work this morning, I was checking e-mails on my computer when my assistant sends over an instant message that said "someone opened your door and turned off your A/C!"... When I arrived at work, my office was a nice comfortable 70 degrees - it took the rest of the morning and half of the afternoon to get it back down to 57.

Training this week has been great with no real setbacks (sorry Dane). I did a hilly 8 last night while listening to a Competitor Radio podcast of Peter Snell - New Zealand's "Athlete of the Century" and gold medalist in both the 1960 and 1964 Olympics in the 800 meters - and finished up my week with a short 5 mile "city tour run" just now that includes two of the more famous hills in San Francisco (California Street and the squiggly part of Lombard).
