I have discovered some really good sports drinks that are available. These are no-nonsense drinks that really deliver what they say! If you want energy, you'll get it and if you want hydration, you will get it!

The drinks are called: Liftoff - (Energy drink) available in Lemon Lime Blast and Ignite-Me Orange

H30 - (Hydration) Lemonaide and Orangeaide

It is what it is

Posted by littlemamalopez on 6/17/2007 on littlemamalopez's blog

Day 6 of the South Beach Diet. Anyone who has done phase 1 before, knows the pain I'm going through. No carbs or sugars. But, I'm not stupid. I know I will pass out on the side of the road if I have no energy. So before my runs I've been sticking with my all time favorite power food.....the totally amazing Rice Krispy Treat. hehehe. Nonetheless, one more week of no carbs or sugars is what I have to look forward to next week.

Q & A: Does it matter when I drink during a long race?

Posted by Structure8998 on 6/8/2007 on Structure8998's blog

A study from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill shows that drinking fluids earlier can improve performance more than taking them later (International Journal of Sport Nutrition and Exercise Metabolism, December 2006).
Seven highly-trained male triathletes, aged 18 to 35 years, were tested during two simulated Olympic-distance triathlons. They took a [...]

Changing the Diet..

Posted by weltal327 on 4/18/2007 on weltal327's blog

hurts more than the longest runs. Cutting out the food I love...

The first cut I ever made was when I stopped drinking sodas and went to water only. I am so glad I have, but it is such a temptation. But I'm proud to say as someone that used to easily go through 48 12 oz. cans of Dr. Pepper in a week I haven't even had that many this entire year. I haven't even had 24. (I do drink sports drinks and other things when I need the supply)

.... and the winner is!!!!!

Posted by baselbutt on 3/24/2007 on baselbutt's blog | Groups: North Pole Marathon

Having amassed a grand total of 17 votes, Michelle's ice melting device is the winner by a fairly wide margin. CONGRATULATIONS Michelle!

Please send me an e-mail at 100powerbars@ponyexpressrun.com with your contact information. I'll let you know the details then. You can have 100 of pretty much anything you want provided boxes are kept intact (12 powerbars to a box, 15 Harvest bars to a box.. etc..).. If you go a little over because things don't add up to exactly 100, that's OK..

Now comes the fun part! BUILDING THE DARN THING!

Thanks everyone!
Bobby

Q & A Will a cold drink improve my performance during hot-weather competition?

Posted by Structure8998 on 3/19/2007 on Structure8998's blog

It may. During hard exercise, particularly in hot weather, you sweat and lose a lot of water and salt. Your performance does not suffer until you lose a very large amount of fluid, about five percent of your body weight or more.
However, when you lose so much fluid that your performance suffers, you cannot [...]

Borscht-flavored Powerbars??

Posted by baselbutt on 3/14/2007 on baselbutt's blog | Groups: North Pole Marathon
Does this look like a good pre-race meal??

With all of this Powerbar contest hype, I've spent a lot of time lately thinking about food; more specifically - what on earth is going to keep me going for the five days between the time I leave my house on April 2nd and the time the gun goes off (assuming there is a gun) at the start of the North Pole Marathon on April 7th?

Both my wife and I are vegetarians (well, no meat except for fish) and are generally fairly picky about what we eat (me more so than my wife who has nicknamed me "eating disorder Bobby" for my fondness of everything that is not fattening). When I inquired about meal options at the North Pole, I got a rather discouraging e-mail from the race director letting me know (and I quote):
