Shoes Make the Man

Posted by weltal327 on 11/30/2007

A lot of people use the cliche that clothes really make the man, but when it comes to running it is the shoes, of course. I recently discovered that it was probably shoes that made this man get hurt in his first marathon. It's been almost 2 weeks since the marathon and I finally went by to pick up some new shoes. I got the same kind I already had, Brooks Adrenaline 7's and I put the left one on and kept my right shoe of my old 7's on. It felt like I had one foot bigger than the other. I wish I had logged the miles I had been putting on my shoes, because I was probably up there.

A Great Quote

Posted by weltal327 on 11/26/2007

During the time at home for Thanksgiving, I was able to share some time with my family and my friends and one of my favorite things to brag on myself about was my marathon, though I don't go out of my way to bring it up or anything, but I don't mind talking about it, because I think each and every one of my family and friends could do the same thing.

Update on the Reverse Turf Toe

Posted by weltal327 on 11/15/2007

So, after running on Tuesday and feeling great, I think my toe is going to be okay.

No Excuses.

I am extremely excited for the marathon. I'm not as prepared or ready qas I could be, but I believe I will complete this marathon, and I am certain it will take less than 5 hours, and hopefully less than 4.5, but at this point I haven't done a run over 10 miles in 4-6 weeks, so anything can happen.

Take 2 - Tulsa Route 66 Marathon - Pregame Pep Talk

Posted by weltal327 on 11/13/2007
This isn't my foot, but this is the taping strategy I'm using.

Ok, so it's been like a month since I last posted. I got really, really frustrated with running and everything after my illness kept me from running the KC marathon like I intended. It wouldn't be so bad if I wasn't getting the e-mails telling me to pick out my race pictures and buy them, or the e-mails asking me to take a survey about the marathon. It's crushing.

Anything but That!

Posted by weltal327 on 10/19/2007

So, I am planning on running the Kansas City Marathon tomorrow, but yesterday as the day went on, the worse I began to feel and the more my throat hurt. I got some of my favorite feel better Vitamin C drink yesterday, but I had trouble pulling my achy body from the bed this morning and now my throat is intensely bad.

I want to run the marathon, but I don't know if being sick will kill me or what.

I guess I'll have to wait until about 7 am tomorrow to decide if I will be marathoning or not.

Try 'em, you don't have to like 'em

Running is completely awesome!

The Tulsa Running Club had one of it's far too infrequent club fun runs over at Runner's World on Thursday evening. The runners gathered for a brief presentation to Runner's World Tulsa for great support of the Run club. Then we had Ellen a nice representative from Pearl Izumi, and Ellen had a special treat for all of us. It's basically the runner's equivalent of Cat Nip... SHOES!

Turkey and TATUR's 25k

Posted by weltal327 on 9/17/2007

The Tulsa Area Trail and Ultra Runners put on a race called Turkey and TATUR's 50k/25k/10k each year in Tulsa and it is one of the few trail races in Tulsa and the 1st Ultra race. This year 220 people attended the race running one of the three distances. I found myself showing up at the Westside YMCA at 6:30 ready to get out and see what I could do. It was strange for me as many of the runners that I run with on a triweekly basis were merely helping to support this race instead of running it.

I still got it.

Posted by weltal327 on 9/12/2007

I got this from ESPN.com it's about Priest Holmes 34 year old Chiefs Running back making a comeback this year hoping to start playing again in October.

"PARKING-LOT SPRINTER

The first year he was out of football, Holmes used to go to Spurs games. The crowd and the energy consumed him. One day, he walked out to the parking lot during halftime and ran sprints between the cars. He wanted to see if he still had it.

'Anytime you watch a sport or you see kids doing something athletic,' Holmes says, 'when you see a guy do something you can't do, it makes your competitiveness come out.'
