Mt. Si Relay

Posted by davidall99 on 4/24/2007

One of the things I love about my current place of work is that endurance sports are everywhere. I have to believe that without the support and competition of the other dedicated runners in the office, I wouldn't have been able to PR in first marathon in 10 years as well as be in the best shape of my life. Unfortunately, we don't get to run much on the weekends but this weekend was different, we put together 5 runners from our office and competed in the 57 mile, Mt. Si relay, in Snoqualmie, WA.

We each ran 2 legs, each leg consisted from at most 7.9 miles to at least 3.5 miles. My two legs were 7.9 (54:21) and 4.4 (29:21). I was really happy with my splits considering I was recovering from the Whidbey Island marathon the week before. Nothing like two tempo runs in one day to get the lactic acid built back up in your legs. :)

3 minutes 45 seconds

Posted by davidall99 on 4/24/2007
Looking strong at the start...

Only 3 minutes 45 seconds kept me from celebrating a successful Boston Marathon qualifying race at the Whidbey Island Marathon, and, "only" celebrating my first successful marathon after 10 years of no races what-so-ever... I'm trying to focus on the positive... 3:23:45 - 1st marathon in ten years, PR by 16 minutes, Half-Marathon PR by 5 minutes, beautiful run, met and ran with Dean Karnazes for a couple miles, spent a wonderful weekend with the family. Yeah, the 3:45 isn't that big of a deal but MAN, it would have been nice...

Some things I learned along the way that most likely caused the breakdown...
