Yay, a new weekly mileage record!

Posted by baldwyn on 3/7/2008 on baldwyn's blog

My tally for the past 7 days:
Sat: 31 miles (Skyline Ridge 50k)
Tues: 4.65 miles (lunch run)
Thurs: 4.65 miles (lunch run)
Fri: 23 miles
-----
Total: 63 miles

I ended up with both of my vehicles (a Jeep and a motorcycle) at work, after picking up my motorcycle from the dealer (usually they give out loaners, but this time they asked for the loaner back because the repair was taking too long. Huh?) Yay, an opporunity for a long run into work! I like these runs because I get a long run without sacrificing time on the weekend, I consume gels instead of fossil fuels, I get to watch the sunrise and sleepy neighbourhoods wake up.

My dog wakes me up 10 minutes before my alarm at 4:50. I feel bad that he can't come with me. He runs faster and longer than me, and would really enjoy it. I hit the road at 5:55.

I've been plagued by "incidents" during trail running. Lately it's been tripping, and turning ankles. Today it didn't have to be on a trail. Less than a mile from home, I trip on uneven sidewalk, and go down! I'm getting better at executing a parachute landing fall when I trip, and other than scrapes, I'm ok. Three miles later, I turn my ankle (the one I sprained 3 weeks ago that swelled up painfully). Still ok, it's easier to go forward than backwards.

My legs tire easily today. I'm going to blame the 50k race on Sat, and a fastish run yesterday. If I'm going to do 50 miles, gutting it out for 20 miles is a useful ability.

I take a slightly different route than I have previously, and end up running around Lake Elizabeth in Fremont. It's very pretty, and lots of people are out walking or running. The other runners look very fresh. I wonder what they think of a weary guy, wearing a hydration pack, shuffling along the trail.

I made it to work by 10am. Eat, and then shower, and then blog about it I guess! This is my second last week at this job and I'm really going to miss it. For one thing, my new job is 35 (or 45 depending on the route) miles away...

You are going to do great in the 50-miler!! I'm so impressed that you could run 23-miles less than a week after completing a 50k!!! Way to go, B!!

Ug! No wonder you are falling over, you are running while still asleep :)

The new job? Running there? Don't even think about it!

Thanks RunnerNYC!

Simon, I still think it has something to do with being clumsy, but you're probably onto something! :)
