Win a Suunto T3 Fitness System!

Posted by baselbutt on 3/9/2007 on baselbutt's blog | Groups: North Pole Marathon
SUUNTO T3

One lucky member of the YourRunning.com(munity) is going to walk away with one of the best sports watches on the market today – the Suunto T3!

This is more than just a watch, the Suunto T3 helps you train with confidence by providing vital information on the aerobic benefit of each workout. Are you over or under-training? Sweating hard enough to reach your goals? The Suunto T3 knows and tells with real-time Training Effect.

If you want it, here’s how to get it….

The winner will be the person who guesses my finishing time at the North Pole Marathon on April 7th with OR without going over. I realize most of you don’t know me from Adam, so guessing my performance at the North Pole Marathon would be just that – a guess. So you can at least make an educated guess, here is a little bit about me:

I’ve run under 3 hours, but have spent the past five years doing triathlons and ultra-marathons (which – I just learned – are more stunts than actual sporting events), so I’m probably in shape right now to do JUST under 3:00 if I had to… The winning time last year at the North Pole was somewhere in the 3:40’s.. I’ve done over 50 marathons and ultra-marathons in my life, so the distance shouldn't be something that gets me (the conditions, however, are another story!). I plan on being fit for this effort, but who really knows what is going to happen…

So with that, here are the contest rules (because what would a contest be without rules):

1. Registered members of the YourRunning.com(munity) can submit their guess by logging in and posting a comment to this message (in the comment field below).

2. Members may submit one (1) entry per person. If multiple entries are submitted, only the first entry will be valid.

3. You must be logged in when you enter (this enables me to contact you if you win). Registration is free and takes less than a minute to do.

4. My final time as determined by the organizers of the North Pole Marathon will be compared with entries received by April 4th, 2007 at 11:59pm (PST). In the event of a tie, the person who guessed closest without going over will win. If multiple people win based on a time that did not go over the actual time, a random drawing will be held to determine the winner.

5. As with the Powerbar contest, Suunto USA and/or YourRunning.com/Enthusiast Group are not involved with this contest. Any issues (not that I expect any) need to be communicated to me as they come up. Once the contest is over and a winner has been announced, it will be too late.

Here are some helpful links to get you started!

Step 1 is to register. You can do that here: http://www.yourrunning.com/user/register
If you are already registered, log in before entering: http://www.yourrunning.com/user

Best of luck! I’m going to need it!

~Bobby

I've run with Bobby before. I'm familiar with every nuance of his stride and his aerobic capacity and how he laces his shoes. He will run 4:41:35. Guaranteed!

Gee thanks a lot Jerry! Is 4:41:35 your professional medical opinion?? : )

Best of luck, but I sure hope you're WAY off!

Talk to you later,
Bobby

Peter Ferris says:

I would say, given the harsh cold conditions and running in snow, Bobby should definately beat the 5 hours 30 min. Some experts reckon add an hour onto your average time, others say double your marathon time.

I reckon 5 hours 18 mins would be a good time.

Go for it Bobby. Don't slow up MAN, just keep going and think of the finish line. Also be careful at the start, don't go out too hard!!

Yours in the Long Run

Peter Ferris

Bobby,

Good luck and have fun at the North Pole. By posting the following comment on your blog, you have possibly insulted and alienated a number of ultra runners. Not a good strategy while raising money for the CAF.

"... and ultra-marathons (which – I just learned – are more stunts than actual sporting events),"

I'm sure your comment was an attempt at humor or perhaps you are just trying to generate a discussion. In any case, I'm sure many of the subscribers to Ultrarunning Magazine would be offended and dispute what you "just learned" about ultrarunning.

Oh yeah, my guess on your time is 4:32:51. Best of luck. Keep the faith.

baselbutt says:

<em>baselbutt</em>'s picture

Hey Brent,

Thanks for the comment... I just re-read my post and certainly hope that folks out there don't think I wrote that! The post was actually from someone else's blog. I found it quite insulting myself and even replied to his entry.. You can read the original text at:

http://charliebroadway.blogspot.com/2007/03/dvd-running-on-sun.html

It seems the guy rented "Running on the Sun" and has a "slightly" different take on ultra-running than I (and most other runners) do... I actually raced Badwater last year and was far from "babied".. It was probably the hardest thing I've ever done.

Anyway, I just wanted to make it clear that the message you found so insulting didn't come from me..

All the best,
Bobby

I'm guessing my first marathon time: 4:42:30. I hope you go faster than that, so you're not out there in the cold for so long, though!!

Best of luck to you!!
