Posted by SteveRoch on 7/19/2007 on SteveRoch's blog Back in Boulder after three weeks in Jefferson City, MO. In three weeks I saw a grand total of one runner and two cyclists. I did eventually see some thin people but rare. Got lots of honks and cars that had never seen a runner. The toughest thing was finding dirt to run on (never did) and none of the roads have shoulders or even sidewalks. Thus the question, which came first, the unfriendly environment for any sort of outdoor exercise (even walking) leading to the extreme number of unhealthy people or were they always that way and thus never saw the point in wasting money on shoulders and sidewalks. Just happy to be back on my Coal Creek Trail where I saw at least 30 people before 7:00am this morning!!! | |

Which came first: roads without shoulders/sidewalks or obesity? |

Perhaps an eventual partial solution to that will be $5- or $6-a-gallon gasoline. 8^)
And hurray for Boulder (where I live, too). Often feels like we're in a bubble here.
