When A Rest Day Doesn't Work

Posted by brad on 11/27/2006 on brad's blog

Keystone – 5.33 – 1:06. Friday is my rest day.  I love Friday’s.  I took Friday off.  I felt tired and sluggish on Saturday and ended up punting my Saturday run, figuring that I’d do a three hour run on Sunday.  I didn’t sleep well at all last night (probably woke up 30 times, which is highly unusual for me.)  When I finally got up Sunday, I still felt tired.  The “oh shit – I have cancer” thought went through my mind.  I rolled over, slept until 11, got up, had a cup of coffee, and went for a run.  I didn’t really know how far I was going to go when I set out – I figured I’d do a route that would let me bail after an hour if I didn’t want to go longer.  Sure enough, at 30 minutes in I was dragging.  I finally started feeling a little bit of life at 45 minutes, but by that point I was halfway back home.  Overall, it was only a 22.5 mile week so it’s hard to tell what’s going on.  Maybe the 9200 feet of altitude is wearing on me in a funny way.  I’ll be back in Boulder tomorrow – let’s see what Tuesday brings.
