Posted by simon on 8/28/2007 on simon's blog It may be the heat, but I'm feeling tired a lot of the time. It's not the old serum ferritin issue, because the energy is there, it's just hiding. It's no fun feeling dizzy and sick for almost the first mile, but at least I've learned that when I keep going I start feeling better... much better. To the extent of wondering what all the fuss was about. The "fuss" being the hour-long (or more) internal debate along the lines of "Maybe I'm REALLY ill", "Maybe I'm too old for this", "What if I just stopped running?" "What would I do instead?" "Who cares anyway?" Heat may not be THE problem, but it is an issue. So I wondered whether I am just dehydrated most of the time. I've started a super-hydration experimen. I'm drinking a glass of water every waking hour, on the hour, unless I'm in the middle of eating. Or running. I started yesterday. No drmatic surge in energy to report, but some interesting figures. My stats at 1pm were weight 147.6, bodyfat 6.3, hydration 58.6%. At 7pm, after a 3-mile run, weight 147.4, bodyfat 5.6, hydration 69.3. That is a "significant" increase, as scientists might say. Subjectively, I've also noticed that most of what's gone in is not coming out. I mean, I'm certainly going to the bathroom more often, but the quantity coming out doesn't match what I've drunk. More later.
