Posted by simon on 7/24/2007 on simon's blog This says everything you need to know about where my head is at right now :) I found this great article by superstar British coach Frank Horwill. What initially caught my eye was his description of how difficult or slow can be the path back from injury, lay-off or brain-fag. "There may be only a few weeks left after recovery to make a major championship event or be included in an Olympic or Commonwealth Games team", writes Frank. (Obviously, he moves in slightly more rarified circles than I do.) "Getting fit quickly without the possibility of further injury is a priority. Fortunately, three renowned physiologists have their own answers – Gerschler, Astrand and Nurmekivi – and they have certain similarity about their methods." He goes on to give example work-out weeks from each man's system, and then combines them all into one plan. Good stuff. Yesterday I went the Russian route, adopted Nurmekivi and did a session of 400s. Felt good, considering I am re-acclimatising to altitude -- and the heat. Not to mention dry air. Good grief! Has anyone seen pictures of the floods in England? I got out just in time; apparently it has hardly stopped raining there since I left. | |
