Posted by Marathonjunkie on 1/12/2007 on Marathonjunkie's blog So on Januaray 1st I was told about the NPM. And although I did 52 marathons last year and figured 2007 to be relaxing, I could not resist a challenging race like the one at the North Pole. On January 1st I traveled back to Ohio from my last marathon for 2006. Several emails pointed me toward the NPM. I woke up on the second of January and told myself to relax for few days. It could not be done. As I tried to sit in my puffy black barca lounger...my legs began to twitch out of control. I soon found myself out in the freezing rain on my bike in the middle of a 40 mile ride. I loved every minute of it. The 3rd through the 5th of January followed more cold weather rides. Twenty to forty mile rides with a good bit of windchill allowed for a good all over body freeze. I had experienced extreme heat while living in Mississippi for the past 10 years. This was a great re-introduction to the colder air of the north. I was also testing the temperature range of my polar RS8000sd. I like to test my own limits as well as my equipment. So far the Polar has lasted through 20 plus miles of pool swimming. A wind chill of 12 degrees in snow and a quick midnight dip in 54 degree water outside the back porch. My cold weather running would start very soon. Monday the 8th of January would be my return to running after a week of cross training and recovery. Stay tuned for more adventures toward the NPM.
