I was in my office today doing some work, when I glanced up at the big calendar on my wall and was struck by how few days I have left before I leave for Norway. They say time flies when you're having fun, so I must be having the time of my life! After a mild panic attack, I calmly pulled out a pad of paper and planned out the 28 days I have left over a cup of Corn Chowder at lunch. 28 days = 4 weeks = 4 weekends. One of those weekends is fast approaching and happens to include my wife's birthday (March 11th). The following weekend I'm heading to Death Valley to cycle the Badwater 135 course both out and back with a couple of friends (an event we dubbed the Badwater 235). The weekend after that will (have to) be a solid training weekend and the weekend after that is two days before I leave. Luckily, my running base is fairly solid and my body has been responding well to the long efforts I've put myself through. I should say they've been both long and solid. It's one thing to jog through 17 miles, but being able to log 17 miles in your little book and know you pushed the pace the entire time really boosts the old confidence level up a few notches. The big runs left are a 20 miler this Saturday (before heading off to help set up at my son's school's silent auction) and then a 22 miler the weekend of the 24th. That one will be slow and steady for sure. Since I'm sure me rambling about all the long runs I plan to do over the next four weeks is quite riveting, I'll do everyone a favor and stop talking about it. I got the great news today that Suunto is going to sponsor my fundraising efforts this year - meaning that one lucky YourRUNNING.com(munity) member is going to walk away with a brand new Suunto T3 watch! Stay tuned for more details on that! I'd like to dedicate my 11 mile of run to a Cessna 172 that I was supposed to fly today. My flight instructor (Rich) sent me an e-mail this morning to let me know that my 2 o'clock lesson had to be canceled because the plane had gone up the other day and the motor nearly cut out (for those of you who aren't pilots, let me just say that's NOT a good thing). Instead of crying over spilled milk, I changed in to my running clothes and headed out for a nice run instead. After about a mile in the 65 degree weather we had this afternoon (a full 95 degrees WARMER than I'll have to deal with at the Pole), I had completely forgotten about the lesson. Two, no - three exciting things are coming up over the next couple of days. The first will be the arrival of my Kahtoola snow shoes tomorrow. The second will be the arrival of my new digital camera on Wednesday (with which I will take a picture of my new snowshoes - our 6 year old Sony camera fizzled out the other day), lastly, coming up shortly will be my first serious attempt at podcasting. Have a great night and remember registered members need to get their Powerbar ideas in by 11:59pm on March 9th! Talk to you all later, | ||

Two things: one, what we all really want to know is how you are managing to run with your air conditioner unit on your back...
and second, Suunto watches - they are very cool, they are the ones that tell you how hard you've actually trained, right? I want one!

I've been living with the A/C since day 1... I hardly notice being cold anymore, though by the end of the day my typing skills have deteriorated substantially. It's just as well I won't be doing much e-mailing from the Pole (kind of hard to do in snow mittens anyway).
I have the Suunto T6, but the T3 is just as fancy of a watch. In addition to telling you how hard you trained, I think an add on will actually have the watch do the workout for you.. After the workout you simply download the information to your body via a USB cable (sold separately). Seriously though, I've been using Suunto watches for the past 6 years and having nothing but good things to say about them.
No sign of the snowshoes yet.. According to UPS, they're somewhere in the city waiting to be delivered.

I believe Suunto are working on a British version that comes combined with footpod and electric tea-maker to provide cups of tea at crucial moments.
Is the T6 worth the extra bucks over the T3?
