YourRunning.com's enthusiast-in-chief and resident Brit Simon Martin continued his updates from the United Kingdom this week, where he was enjoying a bittersweet taste of home in the form of classic British weather.
He raced the BUPA Great Capital Run in London's Hyde Park. Despite finishing in the the first percentile of runners and (presumably) winning his age group, with a potential cold AND a self-induced relaxed first half, Simon wasn't happy with the results. Results that reminded him of an oft-frustrating year of setback after setback.
Recovery came in the form of witnessing Kenenisa Bekele running the fastest 3k ever recorded in Britain, and Jeremy Wariner and Oscar "Blade Runner" Pistorius falter in their own ways at the 400m.
Get all this and more in Simon's blog: Run Time.
It's the YourRunning user blog action - where we spell "run recovery" b-l-o-g-g-i-n-g.
There's "being tough," there's "playing through the pain," and then there's what we like to call a "transcendent performance." That's exactly what YourRunning.com's publisher Steve Outing shared with us: a transcendent performance by the winner of the Hard Rock 100. In the same race, thedanx rolled on for 46 hours in his first attempt of the 2007 San Juan tour. Perhaps inspired, YourRunner Brad decided "the hell with it" and is now sneaking up on an unplanned marathon. Last week StellaTortoise should've listened to her mother; this week she should've hit snooze instead of turning the alarm completely off. While littlemamalopez continues her roll, while Steve Roch leaves us with a parting thought, "which came first, a lack of places to run, or obesity?"
