The last of the double digits

"10"

With ten days before I leave and the movie-themed countdown in full force, I was torn between "Force 10 from Navarone" and that other "10-related movie"... Call me crazy, but I think the one I picked will make for better mental imagery come race day if things don't go so well.

WELCOME TO T-MINUS 10 DAYS!!!

After my wife and I put our kids to bed tonight, I scooted off to REI to pick up some things I ordered earlier in the week - wool socks, waterproof socks, ear muffs, Polartech pants, wind/waterproof "hanging out at the hotel" pants by North Face.. I'm now 98% set from a gear standpoint (missing are those pesky tights and a face mask). Greg Hind from GH Sports sent me some glove liners today (Thanks Greg!) and I finalized all of my travel reservations (I even shifted one of my seats up a row and to the other side of the plane).

On the training front, my legs were a little tight today so I passed up my run so I can be fresh for a 10 miler tomorrow and my long run on Saturday (my LAST longish run before raceday). To think that whether I'm truly ready or not, there isn't much that's going to happen over the next two weeks that's going to make one bit of difference (aside from blowing out a knee or getting hit by the proverbial bus) has really taken a load off my mind.

Speaking of taking a load off, I am psyched about trying out my new camera (and my impeccable sense of timing) and going airborne for a split second for Yann's "take a running jump" picture contest.

Nighty night!

Force 10 from Navarone is pretty cool. I've read the book and have seen the movie. It's not exactly lacking in mental imagery... probably a lot less than the other ( I haven't seen 10, so I can't say, just guess...) but there is some all the same.

I think they might have had a bit more running in Force 10 though.

Have you seen the latest Bond movie - Casino Royale? They seem to have gone back to basics -- Bond does a lot of running in it and the opening action sequence featuring a star "free runner" is amazing :)
