Take 2 - Tulsa Route 66 Marathon - Pregame Pep Talk

Posted by weltal327 on 11/13/2007 on weltal327's blog
This isn't my foot, but this is the taping strategy I'm using.

Ok, so it's been like a month since I last posted. I got really, really frustrated with running and everything after my illness kept me from running the KC marathon like I intended. It wouldn't be so bad if I wasn't getting the e-mails telling me to pick out my race pictures and buy them, or the e-mails asking me to take a survey about the marathon. It's crushing.

What's worse is I don't have nearly enough confidence to run the marathon on Sunday. My training took a major dip. I've been at a much lower mileage per week right now and I came up a little injured again. The weather was just fantastic this weekend in the area, so I went out and played some Ultimate Frisbee. Normally I play in Cleats, but it being a nice field and the other competitors were all barefoot, I decided I would do the same. Well, somehow I got my big toe under my foot and got kind of an inverse turf toe type sprain I think. I was fine to keep playing the rest of the game and I went home and iced, taped it up and went out dancing. Then I came home and iced some more. I think it's gonna be okay, there is a little swelling and bruising, but my current taping strategy has no pain while I walk and I even got up on my toes and jogged a little in place in my running shoes this morning.

I'll talk to my coach this afternoon and see what she thinks and then we'll take it from there as to whether I run tonight or hit it up on the stationary bike.

I'm sorry to be freaking out a little bit right now on this post, but I've had a huge amount of confidence in my running for about 5-6 months of this year and the last month has just torn me down completely. I'm hoping to have a strong showing at this marathon and then creep down into some maintenance miles to get me to '08.

My only New Year's Resolution was to run a marathon this year, and this could be the first year in a long time that I actually follow through with my reserve. I'll give you guys another update as to my running status, and hopefully a nice race report after the race!
