On Saturday I ran the Hermosa 5000. It was an inaugural event to mark the centennial anniversary of the city of Hermosa Beach, CA. I've run several 5ks here in the South Bay of Los Angeles and I have to say this was by far the best. The course was amazing, starting on the streets, moving to the strand (like a boardwalk), and the last leg took us down the Hermosa pier and back to the finish line. The event was well organized and supported, not to mention the beer garden afterward! I would have liked to run it all out for a PR, but I invited my friend who is an avid exerciser, i.e. spinning, weight training; but she has never run before. We had a lot of walk breaks, and I kept talking through the run to distract her and we finished in a commendable 37:15. She couldn't believe she did it, but I knew she had it in her.I was so happy for her and really felt great that I took the opportunity to run with her.
Since Saturday I've been on the injured/sick list and can't wait to be out there again in the early morning. But sometimes the body just needs more recovery. But I'll be out there tomorrow, I have to break in my new Triax and my new Garmin Forerunner! I'm so excited. Until then, I live vicariously through everyone who was able to run today. Trek on.
