Posted by littlemamalopez on 6/6/2007 on littlemamalopez's blog Ever since my son Austin placed 3rd in his grade for the 50 yard dash, he has shown real interest in running with me. Today was no exception. He only wanted to do a mile, which is understandable, and since today is my rest day, I figured a good time to get a little blood into the muscles. I got a sweet extra half hour of sleep and got him up at 5:30. In no time, he was ready to go. We split a rice krispy treat, sipped some water, put the leash on the dog and off we went. I am so thrilled that he wants to run with me - at last, someone in my family shows an interest in my love of running. We talked about the dreams he had last night, plans for the weekend, how beautiful the day was turning out to be, etc. On our walk home from Starbucks there was a moment when we weren't talking, just listening to the birds. Austin found "the no talking thing" so odd and laughed about it. So many news reports talk about how we need to spend more time with our kids just talking, and I realized how much I do talk and interact with my kids. I'm so glad I have that closeness with them, and how much more I'll have as I run with my son. 1 mile run/walked at 4 and 1:30s (Austin's suggestion) | |
