Posted by simon on 9/14/2007 on simon's blog Ooo, I'm so proud today! Patty just emailed from Italy to say she DID win the silver in the 5k -- you couldn't tell from the weird way the world masters championships organizers post the results, and the slightly weird way these races were run. My training partner and YourRunning.com blogger writes from Riccione: "The 5000 was a final -- they had a slow heat and a fast heat. I was in the fast heat with two Belgians ranked under 17:00 and I pushed the last mile with a final 75-second quarter to pass one of the Belgians, so I did get the silver medal. Corinne Debaets won in 16:54. "It was so awesome", says Patty. "I ran smart. moving up from 4th to 2nd, gradually." Next up: the 1500, which is being run later today. There were two 1500m heats with the top 6 from each going through. "I run the finals tonight and I am scared to death!" she says. "I would be happy to finish in the middle of the pack since I haven't done much speed work. As it is, I can't believe I ran 17:11 for 5k. That was amazing; the 1500 is just icing on the cake." | |
