OK, I give up. Anyone got a Precor for sale?

It's back.

The very day after I enjoyed a luscious trail run in old-style Nike Frees, a celebration of things back to normal... the iron is getting through, the legs felt good; I took it easy-ish as a compromise between the "quality versus quantity" argument -- soundly won by quality -- and the helpful suggestions of coach Bobby McGee that maybe, just maybe, given my winter of injury rehab, virus attack, basement-level serum ferritin and serious attempts to "run" in knee-deep snow and/or ankle-deep mud, it might be wise to do some of the now-despised moderate-pace runs....

yes, the very next day I sprang out of bed (well, OK, I didn't...I staggered), looked out of the window and there is was. Again. Snow. Deep snow and still falling. No., I'm not happy now. This is some kind of sick joke. Like... you couldn't get to the Pole so we'll come to you????? Enough already.

Running on treadmills does my head in. (= I do not like it). But, now I've had it. I give up. I want one. I need one. Does anyone have one?

Can I make one out of Power Bars?

I am tired of the winter weather as well. Wednesday I ran back home with snow blowing in my face so that I could barely see where I was going and Thursday 4th Street was like an ice skating rink! Next week the weather is suppose to improve. Would you like to meet Thursday the 8th for a run? I am glad you are feeling better. Hope to see you.

Simon,

Have you read anything about the British marathoner Keith Anderson?

He's the guy that gave up smoking and drinking in his 30´s and ended up running

for GB in the olympic games in the marathon.

He did a hell of a lot of his training on a treadmill regardless of the weather.

I too am trying to experiment with this form of training to see if it can given me some improvement gains.

Here is a link http://www.trailplus.com/about.cfm

Regards

Nev

I know KA as a fast veteran (masters) runner and former fell-running champion -- that really took some doing coming off the booze, fags and the sofa! (It was the Commonwealth Games, I think, not the Olympics, but still a fine achievemment)... and no, I had no idea that he used the treadmill a lot.

Funnily enough, though, last night I bought a book called "The Athlete's Way" -- subtitle "Sweat and the Biology of Bliss"; I mean, how could I resist it?!?! -- by a bloke called Christopher Bergland. He is an ultra-runner who has won the Triple Ironman three times: this is a consecutive 7.2-mile swim, 336-mile bike ride and 78.6-mile run!
More to the point, he also holds a Guinness World Record for treadmill running: 153.76 miles in 24 hours.

This guy lives in Manhattan and does most of his training in gyms, on treadmills. He says: "Treadmills allow me to lose myself in the purest form of running. On a treadmill it is just the simple, repetitive organic motion of running. There is nothing to navigate, nowhere to get to -- just running -- and running fills me with the purest bliss of any sport".
