Nephew run

Nephew Joey / Uncle Mike

Yesterday my niece and nephew came over for a visit, the first one in 5 years or so. They live in Westerville, OH just outside of Columbus. I took Joey out to a Cleveland Indians (vs. the Phillies) game along with my friend Scott and we really had a ball. The tribe ended up winning 10-6 with a very exciting 8 run 6th inning. I caught Joey rooting for the home team, even though he is really an Oakland A's fan.

During the evening and also prior to the game, Joey has been telling about how much he likes to exercise so I told him if he would wake up early we could run in the Gorge before he got picked up by Grandpa. He had no problem getting up when I roused him at 6:15 am, and we got a drink of water and then drove over to the Gorge. Normally I just run the half mile or so there, but not knowing how much he really likes to run, I thought we would drive over and just do one loop on the 1.8 mile trail. With stops for photos, this isn't too bad for a 12 year old to run.

Joey did a great job, never once complaining and my only concern for him was that he pay attention on the rocky and root covered sections so he didn't trip or twist an ankle. Again, he did great. I think right now his main sport of interest is football, and he likes to play receiver...but he stoved a finger and broke it awhile back, so he is having to take it easy on that until it is healed.

I am probably going to go back today for a few loops of the trail because I can't run with Tony later on and I want to get in my heat runs....I am thinking 5 loops plus the run over and back should put me at 10 miles.....that sounds good for today.
