Posted by cselland on 9/3/2007 on cselland's blog I thought it was going to be a great running weekend for me. Started off Saturday with my 10 mile 'pace' run (yes, I'm falling behind schedule - more on that shortly). Morning was cool, and I felt great. Finished in 1:31 and felt great - like I could have run another 10. Started getting delusions of grandeur - hoping the race could be 2 rather than 5 weeks off, etc... Today was a different story - my 15 mile 'long run'. Hotter day, hillier course, and I felt both. Also got a bit cocky - really didn't eat right (I get a bit of a pass since yesterday was my birthday) and maybe even nursing a bit of a hangover. Held pace for about 11 miles, bonked, shuffled another 2 and walked the last 2 since my heart was pounding and my legs were shot. My 2:45 was humbling, to say the least, although that's somewhat biased since it includes my walk time. I still do wish the race were sooner rather than later. School starts, soccer coaching (and parenting) starts, and I've got 2 heavy weeks of business travel. It's going to be all I can do to steal a few miles during the week and try to get a few more long runs. Hopefully they'll be confidence builders like the last few - excepting today's. | |
