Mmmh! The 10k 40min barrier eludes me yet again :(

Posted by nevjohnson on 9/3/2007 on nevjohnson's blog

Oh well! Weather wise I could not have asked for more.
8am start! Light drizzle and overcast.
I had planned 10weeks earlier for this race with the view of braking 40mins for 10k.

The course was 97% perfect with very few hills a few turns.
Also I had the added incentive that I needed to get back home quick to watch the Triathlon World Champinships which also started at 8am

But alas I trailed home in a pityful 42:30.

OK so what went wrong? I can sum that up in 3 works LACK OF MOTIVATION.

You would have though the GOAL would have been motivational enough but I failed to stick to my training plan yet again preferring to amass lap after lap in the pool.

But as should be the case in any race I managed to take away some positives.

1. One of the top females (that I have beaten twice this Summer already) can home in 40mins 05 secs, so there is hope yet

2. I managed to beat all my triathlon buddies

3. I avenged the defeat by a skinny 23 year old that whipped me 4 months prior in a 10k
( He told me he clock 35mins for 10k a year ago) Mmmh sounds like bu%#!!tt to me.

So there we have it still unable to break 40min for 10K.

OK so whats next! I shall wait for the tri season to finish and cut back considerably on swimming and focus solely on building a stronger aerobic base for Spring 2008.

Watch this space. I WILL DO IT!

P.s The World Champs Tri was won by the German Peter Unger he clocked sub 30 min after having swam 1500m and biked 40km (What did he have for breakfast)
