Posted by simon on 6/10/2007 on simon's blog With temperatures reaching 89 today, a late-bordering-on-night-time run is looking attractive. But, I can't, I just can't, give way to my obsession and repeat the SAME evening trail run I've done for the last four weeks !!!! I know I should have got up at 7am like "sensible" runners do and get out there before it got hot, but I was still recovering from yesterday's "double". First run was an easy 6 miles on my "3 up, 3 down" route, which is almost entirely all the way uphill on a mix of road and trail from my front door to a spot 3 miles out, where I usually find myself desperately holding it together while I wait for my Garmin to bleep and tell me I've gone far enough, it's time to stop, drink and turn downhill. Second run was a five-mile trail run in the dark; I was just going to do a few laps of the trails round Wonderland Lake, but got a bit carried away. I was experimenting with my IPod again and there was one "shivery" moment, with the thing on random select, when I was picking up the pace on a long flat stretch in the middle of nowhere, the last of the light dying around me, and one of the haunting tracks from the movie "Gladiator" came on. That run brought me to the end of my third week of the Restart Phase with mileages of 36, 37 and 39. I'm hooking up with the Boulder Trail Runners tonight to do a loop out from Chautauqua starting at 7pm. It was that or Eagle Trail again :) | |
