Jetfuelburner's Fit From Fat Running Blog

An idea (for pain) is born...the Buckeye Run.

Posted by Jetfuelburner on 11/18/2007 on Jetfuelburner's blog

So, I have this idea....

I started kicking around this idea in my head that because eventually I want to do a transcontinental run, I should run across my home state first.  Sometime next spring (late April/early May) I think I am going to give Ohio a go, starting at the Indiana border and going east to Pennsylvania.  I will find and use a jogging stroller just like the transcon guys use...

The dream trip is that I would run across Ohio in 5 days, doing around 45 or so each day.  In order to gage my readiness for this adventure I am going to plan out a double 40-45 weekend in which I run somewhere from my house Saturday between 40-45 miles away, stay overnight and run home the next day.

As part of the adventure I think I am also going to start a separate blog on which I make it possible for folks to donate to a Mental Health organization for charity.  I have witnessed the excellent work of B Bostic on here and others and want this run to benefit some others.  I think it is the right venue for this.  Any comments?

Hey I think that sounds great, You're lucky your state is only 200 or so miles across.

Other states to try

Vermont
Rhode Island
Tennessee
Texas
Alaska
Hawaii - I think you need a boat for that one.

In all seriousness it sounds great and using it to raise money for charity sounds even better. I assume by jogging stroller you plan on getting in that to ride when you get tired? Or you are going to keep your clothing, shoes, and food in there?

The stroller will be to carry my food, clothes, sleeping bag, and tent. No riding...feet power all the way across.

The inspiration for this came partly from a Tennessee run they do called the Vol State Run and a podcast I heard about it.

This will be open to anyone who wanted to join me and I will post dates on here and to the blog I create for it.....

The route I mapped out is 236 miles, so I am hoping for about 45-48 miles a day and to try to do it in 5 days.
