First Annual JesVic Watsontown 5k

Posted by trunner on 6/16/2007 on trunner's blog | Groups: Lets Run

This morning I ran in the first annual Jes Vic Watsontown 5k. Race start time was 8:00am. My time was 30:50 and I am very happy with that! I feel vindicated! The only hill that I was aware of was harder than I expected. I will do this race again. If you want more information on this race, check out the website of http://www.svrunner.com and look for the link for Jes Vic Watsontown 5k. I think they may even have their own website now? It's a really good course and was managed really well especially for the first one. --- In memory of Jessica Sue Wade & Vicki Marie Derr Hitesman

Check out my photos for the picture from this race.

My stats:

Total Runners (I think?): 204
My overall place: 145
My time: 30:50

Good going! So, two days before the race you did a "full-power for as long as you could" burst in the middle of your run, right? Do you think that was what helped you?

I know you were saying you were trying new approaches, so maybe you did something else new the day before that also helped?

Mind you, I do think combing a tempo run, a recovery run and a hill run in one two-mile session two days before a race gets my "That takes the Biscuit" award for creativity.

Thanks for the picture; yes, we needed proof! Hahahahahaha

Thanks Simon, I've been using full-power tempos lately instead of following the standards for tempo runs. I've been noticing some help there. Also, it does help to loose some wait. I lost around 10 pounds. I was around 194 and now I'm 184. Losing those 10 pounds is like setting aside a 10 pound wait and running without it. I've been trying to do different things lately to help improve my performance. I have 2 personal favorite races coming soon (my July races) These two races are kind of like my flagship races. One is a 5k, the other the 10k. Also, I should mention that there is another thing that is helping my runs, that is motivation or the mental edge. This factor is the best it's been for me in a long while -- thanks!
