"Feed a cold..." am I ready for hibernation yet?

Posted by simon on 8/8/2007 on simon's blog

"Feed a cold and starve a fever" they say.

Strange that even though I thought the lack of exercise and feeling generally blah would kill my appetite, the reverse has happened. I've been scoffing solidly for two days and, miraculously, am starting to feel better.

So much so that I revisited the scene of my crimes last week -- yes at last I got back to the track. Took a VERY easy two-mile warm-up jog/run up and down the slopes round the lake. For some reason my left Achilles has been screaming at me all day, but as I warmed up, so did it, and I was fine.

On the track... a tentative 100m still in warm-up clothes. Hm. Not too bad. The zip is still there. I followed with a 200m, then a 400, and then back down with a 200 and another 100. It was enough to find out that the parts are still in working order.

Got back to find the local tv news very excited about bears. Apparently the wet weather has been making it tough for them and they've not only started the move into residential neighbourhoods a bit earlier than usual, but they are more aggressive with it. Already 7 have had to be killed.

What's got the bears wound up is a lack of natural food just as they are gearing up for their heavy eating season. In two weeks' time they are due to start eating solidly -- for up to 20 hours a day -- in preparation for hibernation.

OK, I'm down with the eating 20 hours a day; it's worked for me... but do I have to hibernate now?
