Between the Badwater 135 last July and back-to-back century +’s on the bike the past two days, I am now quite well versed on the subject of pain and everything that goes with it. I’ve also become intimately familiar with the route from Furnace Creek to Lone Pine, so if anyone has ANY questions about it, I have a ton of worthless information in my brain to spew back at you.
Luckily, starting tomorrow I will be 100% focused on running (not sure I even want to see my bike for a while), so you won’t have to put up with me posting arguably off-topic stories about my biking adventures.
After getting our rear-ends handed to us yesterday by over 12,000 feet of climbing, we mounted our bikes and slowly made our way back for a return trip that would include another 5,000 feet of climbing (and 12,000 feet of descent). Unfortunately within 20 miles, our threesome would have it’s first casualty as Chuck (delayed by two flat tires) flagged down a car and hitched a ride back to Furnace Creek.
Eran and I worked together for the remaining 80 miles (which included just under 40 miles of downhill, and a 10 mile 9 percent grade climb) and pulled in to Furnace Creek just after 5pm. It was very long, hard day, but we learned a lot about our limits and had a fantastic time in one of the most beautiful places on earth. 235 miles of cycling over 2 days. Thanks god it’s over!
So, with that – I’m back to running!
