Posted by thedanx on 7/17/2007 on thedanx's blog I am happy to report that I successfully completed my first attempt of the 2007 San Juan tour known as the Hardrock 100 endurance race. My time of 46 hours flat was enough to earn me 86th place out of a total of 97 finishers and 134 starters. The race started and ended in Silverton with 33,124 feet of climb and descent. The later I found particularly difficult after sustaining an IT band injury running the Bighorn 100 last month. Besides one hail and lightning storm (always exciting above treeline), the weather was fantastic and course conditions ideal! The scenery of the San Juans is absolutely incredible and the aid stations were all very well supplied with both food, drink and exceptional volunteers. I think this race has earned a special place in my heart and I can only hope that I will be as lucky with the lottery next year. For now, my sights are set on my next race: the Leadville Trail 100. This will be race 3 of the 4 I will be running for the Rocky Mountain Slam. These include the Bighorn 100 (Dayton, WY: June), Hardrock 100 (Silverton, CO: July), Leadville Trail 100 (Leadville, CO: August) and the Bear 100 (Preston, ID: September). | |
