Fred LeBow XC 5k 9.21.08

Posted by Runner NYC on 10/3/2008 on Runner NYC's blog

Hi all, Race number 23 was the Fred LeBow Cross-Country 5k in Van Courtland Park. Goals:  I had run 19 miles on the treadmill the day before, so this was really just a test to see how well I could race after a long run.

Disneyland Half Marathon 8.31.08

Posted by Runner NYC on 9/26/2008 on Runner NYC's blog

Hi all, Race number 22 was the Disneyland Half Marathon.  We started in Downtown Disney, ran around the back of California Adventure, then entered and ran through California Adventure, crossed the esplanade and entered Disneyland, ran through Disneyland, came back out onto the streets of Anaheim, ran back and over to Arrowhead Pond (home of the Mig

Back to Duke - looking for lost youth

Posted by Finish Strong on 9/19/2008 on Finish Strong's blog | Groups: Sub-5 Minute Miling

I moved from the D.C. area to the Triangle area of North Carolina yesterday. It wasn't my job that prompted me , but a desire to inspire ( hey , it could happen ) college students to make a difference in the upcoming election.

Once again, back to running

Posted by bigvalleystrider on 9/18/2008 on bigvalleystrider's blog

Well, it's back on the road for me.  In February, 2007, I twisted my ankle over while running.  I have now reached the point where I am going to train for a race again.  Way back in 1990, I ran in the New York City Marathon.  My wife was pregnant with my daughter at the time, and for the last two years, my daughter has been trying to convince me to try to get in the race again, so here I go.

Absolutely Marbleous: high times at the Lead King Loop

Posted by simon on 9/18/2008 on simon's blog

This was the hardest race I've ever run.

It wasn't just the 15.5 miles - severely over-distance for a miler/5k-er like me - but that the combo of gruelling uphill sections and technical descending often on loose rocks that were training to become scree meant there was no let up, anywhere. Oh, except maybe on the log over the river.

Why did the turkey cross the road?

Posted by Runner NYC on 9/11/2008 on Runner NYC's blog

Hi all, I didn’t run this race.  In order to automatically qualify for the 2009 NYC Marathon, NYRR members now have to run nine races and “volunteer” at one.  I had hoped to volunteer at the Club Championships (I’m not a team member and not eligible to run that event), but I think everyone else had that idea, too.  So, I picked the Fitness 4-miler, which holds difficult memories for

Now that's more like it! 10 miles of hard fun at the Aetna Park to Park

Posted by simon on 9/4/2008 on simon's blog

Definitely from the ridiculous to the sublime: the getting-a-bit battle weary Colorado Runner Racing Series points chasers moved to Denver to find a welcome contrast to our last race, which was such a fiasco that the "results" were dropped from the series.

I have a cunning plan... to PowerCrank up my training

Posted by simon on 8/28/2008 on simon's blog

So I decided it would be a good idea to replace one of my week's 6-mile runs with something with less impact.

Although I do most of my training on trails, they have been almost as hard as tarmac throughout the summer, and for the fist time ever I've been getting the odd twinge in my knees.

Marriage, anyone?

Posted by dave albo on 8/26/2008 on dave albo's blog

Well I finally did it. Under a hail and rain pummelled tent Patty and I exchanged vows and began a life together in marriage. Since this is yourrunning.com I'll focus in on the running component of this union and give that some examination.

We are both very much fans of all things running, actually competing to see who gets their hands on Track and Field News first each month, for example. Never is a race or track meet on the TV missed.

We both enjoy that uniquely intense experience garnered by racing.
